An Elephant & Piggie Book by Mo Willems

I wish I could write this review ten times. That’s how good these books are. My two children both read them during their early reading years and fell in love with Mo Willem’s humorous tales. These books were taken for show-and-tell, used in story boards, and shared with family and friends. Each book examines a developmental issue or social issue and tackles it beautifully, in a way that is age appropriate and positive. Even as both children have reached reading levels that are much above the reading level of these books, we still pull them out and read them. Because they are funny—to children and I’ll admit, myself as well. I would list a favorite of this family, but there’s no way we could choose just one. We Are in a Book, I Broke My Trunk, Can I Play Too?, and I’m a Frog are some we’ve enjoyed thoroughly (though even as I wrote the list, I had to make myself stop, because I’d see another one and smile as I recalled the content). These are winners. We give them as gifts now to younger cousins and friends and the recipients tend to fall in love with them just as we have.
